The Living Blanket is an ever growing quilt made by women and women’s groups around the world. It is a collective creation, a weaving of identities and histories, a generator of exchange and dialogue that circulates and grows in a culture of peace. It will be held in association with WACK! And Heart of the City Festival and others; with the participation of women’s service agencies active in Vancouver Downtown Eastside including, Confirmed Partners:, Atira Women’s Resource Society, WISH Project and Drop-in Centre, Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, Capilano College Textile Arts Program, Carnegie Centre, Comforter Art-Action Project , Philippine Women’s Centre of BC, Heart of the City Festival.

Under the patronage the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo (Argentina, still searching for children taken by the hand of oppression), The Living Blanket is coming to Vancouver in October, 2008. Under the creative direction of lead artist Doris Buttignol (France) the Vancouver launch is hosted by Centre A and targeted to involve women of the Downtown Eastside, as well as artists and women of all ages from across the lower mainland.

The project has a global reach through a multi-lingual website and enjoys the official patronage of Europe’s Year for Intercultural Dialogue.

Artist Talk by Doris Buttignol will be Scheduled in the public program of WACK!.

Political Fashion Show : In collaboration with Philippine Women Centre of B.C.
Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Centre A

As a part of The Living Blanket / La Couverture Vivant, The 3rd Political Fashion Show by the Philippine Women Centre of B.C. will be held during the exhibition. The event will raise awareness about issues facing the Filipino community in Canada and overseas by using art and fashion by local Filipino designers.
